Plenty of HW at the USCGA

This is in response to Bluefalcon from the AFA complaining about not being challenged. My son reports that he spends 5 hours or more a day on HW. Typical day begins at 0:530 with sss(pls dont censor!) followed by cals and formation, bkfst then school from 8-2:00; 2 hrs to start hw; 2 hrs sports period followed by dinner and hw from 8-11 or later depending. Not sure how you are getting by on a hour a day of hw. Cautionary note to those academy wannabes...be ready for the ride of your life!

Uh yeah... I just read some of that. My kid works about 14 hours a day and never is caught up. He lives on 4 hours of sleep to stay on top of all of his dutiesand studies. So I find myself leery of the comments about AFA. Must be an unusual circumstance. Where's DocFrance when ya need him! LOL Bet he could find some little extras to cure that boredom.

Jealous of your son's daily regularity (SSS). Youth is wasted on the young.

Agree that the lack of homework/challenging academics and too much freetime is an aberation within the academies - even the AFA.

From my son's description of WP, homework and other academic demands are managable if you have good time management skills. He goes on to say that, unfortunately, most cadets (including him) don't have good time management skills - yet. He's already figured out that time management skills are something USMA wants to impart on the cadets (He has a commanding grasp of the obvious, like his dad).

GRIN. Boss, you have taken unfair advantage knowing what color my hair is. You know how I have to struggle on a daily basis.

Aspen, maybe the kids don't have enough brass to polish or somethin' & naw, mine doesn't have too many problems with that time management bit. He just needs to clone himself. HA! Here's what I think...I think he signed up for everything they pushed in front of his face....Brings back memories of the 1st grade. "I wanna be a fireman, a nascar driver, a vet, a chef, & a jet pilot". Well that kinda goes away until they go away to college then it begins anew. "I wanna be in the pipe & drum core, I wanna be on the Alpine team, I wanna do martial arts, I wanna sail, I wanna wanna wanna. Could be that mine seeks to go after the opportunities and adventure. Quick cure for the boredom blues I suppose. Training for EMS begins next month I'm told. (ya'll can't see me but I'm actually rolling my eyes) Is it safe to assume that you have to go out & seek your challenges? They never just popped into my lap I'm certain. What a hoot! Am I old or is it just you guys.....
