Things to do in New London?

Thought I would wonder over from the Navy threads . . . Son, as part of his summer sailing cruise, will spend the night in New London at the Coast Guard Academy.
I don't recall it as being a very attractive town. Any advice on something to do while overnight at the Academy?

How about Hotels for those of us hanging around

while son/daughter's attend AIM at CGA? Any reasonably priced B&B's within an hour of academy? Ones that take his 8 yr old younger sister especially needed....

Ideas for area attractions for young kids other than Mystic and Ocean Park? How about over in RI or northern CT?

There a several B&B's in the area. Here is a link.
http://www.thebbmc.com/ Also lists area attractions. Plenty to do in RI including Newport(see other threads). There are some amusements parks not too far away for the kids.
http://www.lakecompounce.com/newsite/index.shtml Lake Compounce is one of them.

Good luck to your son.

For that matter New Haven is less than an hour away. Lots of stuff to do including Peabody Museum(great dinosaur exhibit), Trolley Museum(Branford, one town over), Yale University, Mellon Gallery of Art.
