USCG comissioning

If someone is turned down by the USCGA what are the other ways to earn a comission in the CG? Thank you-John

I know there are more ways, but the only other ways I know are through Officer Candidate School (http://www.uscga.edu/ldc/officer_candidate_school.aspx) and through the Merchant Marine Academy. I will be attending CGA this summer as a 4/c so I have the application process fresh in my mind if you have any questions about that. Boss can chime in with answers to any questions about life at the Academy.

There is also direct commissioning in the case of doctors, lawyers etc. Also members of the fleet can be commissioned from the enlisted ranks.

Well the summer is not the best time to visit since most of the cadets are away. However you will get a good feel of the campus. It's small but very scenic(and hilly for your runs!). I would try to get to talk with some cadets and get some of your questions answered. However, take what they say with a certain grain of salt as most cadets at any of the academies can be cynical at times. Good luck and have a great summer!

We visited in the summer and had a wonderful tour. Plus the cadet that took us around was great and very informative.

We had to phone in advance and provide car registration info.

Thought the campus was lovely...save time for a visit to Mystic Seaport while there. Best of luck
