AIM pick-up / Parents Day

We are trying to plan our trip up to CT for the pick-up of son Mike after he attends AIM III. Pickup is 9 am Friday the 28th but we understand that the day before, i.e. Thursday the 27th, is sort of a Parents Day that allows us to attend certain AIM functions, ceremonies, etc. The time is listed as 8 am to 4pm, but we need to know if there are formal times for these activies posted yet. I.e. do we need to be there at 8 am to see "the good stuff" or can we arrive at noon and still watch the drills, etc.? Obviously we'd plan to stay at a local hotel later that night (as pick-up is not until 9 am the next morning) but we've got a 6 hour drive to get there first.....

Any suggestions from veteran AIM'rs or USCGA reps here on the BB are most welcome!

Unfortunately I don't have a lot of info for you as my son didnt go to AIM. My guess would be that arriving around noon would be good. They have the graduation ceremony later in the day. You don't want to be hanging around for 8 hours anyway...if you get my drift. I know they have a helo rescue demonstration, inspection competition and the graduation but I'm sure most of that is in the afternoon. You may want to email the academy for a more detailed schedule. Good luck.

Aim

I would email the Admission counselor in charge of AIM. Or post a message at the USCGA message board at:

http://messageboard.chatuniversity.com/uscoastguard/

to find out it there is a specific schedule for parents and family. You will probably receive a schedule closer to your date of AIM but it is nice to plan ahead. If you can, plan to be there the two night so that you have a relaxing day looking around New London and the Academy.

My cadet went to AIM in 2003. That year there was only the graduation in the evening. We only had a few minutes to spend with them that evening and then pick up on Friday morning. They have added a few things the last two years.
