The Guardian

The cadets got a sneak preview of the new Kevin Costner movie "The Guardian." From all reports it's an awesome(and accurate) potrayal of Coast Guard rescue swimmers and the helo pilots that get them to the action.

Show Times in Annapolis

Mids who didn't travel to New Haven this weekend to see Navy humiliate UConn are watching The Guardian in Annapolis. It's got to be better than last year's movie about USNA!

I'm also glad to see the Coast Guard get recognition for protecting our ports, coastlines, and waterways. I'd like to see them get the funding and personnel they need to do the job!

Thanks, just don't tell my best friend or my mid's sponsor mom, because they're both UConn grads! Is that considered "The Quiet Corner" of Connecticut?

Storrs is "cow country." It used to be the Conn. School of Agriculture and the team was the "Aggies" believe it or not.

Yep. Go see it. I'm no film critic, but thought it was pretty good. If anyone believes themselves to be a strong swimmer, think again. Lifeguard training is life in Mr. Rogers neighborhood compared to what these guys do to train. They have my full respect. The training portion wasn't too hollyweird. And son is in Honolulu going to see it tonight. His sea partner told us that his Uncle is one of the pilots in the movie so I hope they do get to see it. I will probably go to sleep tonight & dream of drowning.... Oh wait! Maybe a Kevin Costner type Coastie will save me. Well, I have to run & hurry off to slumber land.

Our close friend was a Coast Guard rescue pilot, and his next assignment was working for the Commandant of the USCG in the Pentagon, but he wanted to retire in Southern California--which was also considered 'cow country' about 150 years ago. Hard to imagine grazing cattle instead of freeway gridlock (I don't commute).

Connecticut must be lovely in autumn!

Connecticut is beautiful in the fall especially. It's not as "cow" as I alluded to but Storrs is pretty rural. They have a great ice cream store made from locally "grown" cows milk.
