is the admissions at the CGA made on a rolling bases? if so usually how long does it take for a reply

If any one has been already admitted congrats, and please post of of your stats

I know someone admitted with
1280
3.6 u/w, 4.0w
15/350
bunch of sports, extremely hard classes, leadership positioning in nearly everything
female(which helps)
alot of relatives went there (helps as well)

Is there now and LOVES it and the whole experience.

any one know a time line for the applications? I submitted my app around christmas, when should I be expecting an answer?

is an interview part of the application process??

The CGA has a two-part admissions process. The early decisions(non-binding) are already out. The next phase is the regular rolling decisions. They are beginning to review right now. Decisions will be made between now and April. Interviews are not mandatory but recommended. If you have any new info send it to them as they have an "open file" policy. More info can be obtained at the cga website bulletin boards. Good luck.

I received my appointment on December 15, 2004. SAT's: 1320, Varsity Track, Community Volunteer, Honors & AP classes. Attended AIM 2004 Alpha 1 A-1, I feel I had a strong interview and definitely strong recommendations.

tbby2, i think the interview and the recommendations probably are very important in the admissions process, reason: early in the process i received an email from the regional rep and said the recommendation was the best she'd seen in a while, i had the interview after the recommendations had been submitted.

My Admissions officer told me the interview doesn't hold much weight unless it sheds light on formerly unknown information about the candidate or shows a motivational factor not present in the essay. Since it isn't a mandatory part of the admissions process, it can't make or break you. But if you have the interview, it will show the admissions committee first that you took the time to come to the academy to check it out, that could be impressive you come a great distance. Secondly, even if you are listed as an alternate, that interview will go into your file, when they come back to reevalulate files, an interview can be very helpful in picking out qualified alternates.

One quick question coastie, what kind of reccs did you get? My math teacher graduated from the CGA, and taught there for six years. I was hoping that would really help me out, but I don't know what kind of weight they carry...

My recommendation came from my History Honors class last year, I had the highest GPA in the class. He was very much impressed with my work and he made it obvious in the letter that he wrote. The Auxiliary DSO CC was also very impressed. In my opinion the recommendation is very important.

Do the USCGA academy appointments come in slick binders like the Army or Navy? I am so eager to hear I just want to know. Or do they send a basic business envelope or a package? Thanks guys!

The appointment comes in a Coast Guard Academy folder. It also comes with a course description booklet, and a letter from the Superintendent of the USCGA. It comes in a large cardboard envelope. I guess nothing as fancy as the navy and army, but NICE just the same.
