CGA Sweeps MMA in the Pool

NEW LONDON, CONN.--(1/20/07)--Bobby Brown broke a 25-year-old Coast Guard pool record by 42 seconds in the 1,650 freestyle with his winning time of 16:24.57 to lead Coast Guard to a 167-128 win over rival Merchant Marine and pick up a point in the race for the Superintendent's Trophy.

Brown also won the 100 freestyle (48.40), the 500 freestyle (4:51.31) and swam the lead leg on the 400 freestyle relay team that set a pool record at 3:11.93. Also on the team were Jack Shadwick, Colby Schladt and Jim Okorn.

Okron also won the 50 freestyle (23.68) and the 50 butterfly (24.53), while Timmy Berry won the 50 backstoke (25.70) and 100 backstroke (54.44) for the Bears.

Kate Miller set a pool record in winning the 1650 freestyle (19:07.47) while also winning the 500 freestyle (5:44.09) as Coast Guard beat rival Merchant Marine 153-113 to pickup a point in the race for the Superintendent's Trophy.

Krystyna Vihonski won the 50 breaststroke (34.09) and 100 breaststroke (1:13.76) and swam on the winning 400 medley relay team (4:23.12) with Joyce Haynsworth, Aimee Hart and Jenny Fields.

The Coast Guard Academy now leads the Superintendent's Trophy challenge 6-3 over Merchant Marine with the men's and women's swimmming victories. The Bears have never lost the trophy.

Nah,

Congrats, but you didn't mention that KP won the D-III trophy at the All-Academy Wrestling championships at USAFA this weekend
