Defer?

I would like to attend the Coast Guard Academy and I am wondering whether or not it is possible to defer a year from CGA.
anyone know anything about this?

What exactly do you mean??
If you are selected for an appointment, say for the class of 2012, you would either accept or decline.
If you decided that you would rather wait until 2013 you would have to reapply (your file would just have to be updated), and during that year take college courses equal to those of a 4/c cadet at CGA and remain active in extracurricular activities.
