I will be attending AIM this summer and applying to CGA, however I am an average swimmer.

How high a level of swimmers are most cadets? I know that during swab summer a swimming test is administered; I am just trying to get a feel for the skill level of incoming cadets. Also, does anyone know how much swimming will be done at AIM?

im a soon to be swab and am not a great swimmer either, i wouldnt worry too much about it. i believe the swab summer swim test involves a 100m swim and then 5 minutes of treading water.

definitely work on your swimming over the next year though

My son is in the CGA class of 2010 and a great swimmer he is not...he did work on it some before reporting in for about a month or so. He took swim lessons as a kid but nothing past probably 6 years old. I don't think you need to be an accomplished swimmer and I got the impression that many of the cadets are about average swimmers. Someone did tell him at the academy that they would help you to become a better swimmer if they felt you really needed it. I wouldn't stress too much about the swimming because after the testing, even though he is just an average swimmer, they said he did fine.

If you are a poor swimmer they will put you in a remedial class. Most people improve and they work closely with you. If you don't, at some point you could be disenrolled but that is rare. Even good swimmers have to take advanced courses as you move along.
