To apply, you must be a U.S. citizen and a junior in high school. You must be in good health and physical condition, able to run, do push-ups and sit-ups, and handle the heat and humidity of a Connecticut summer! Your weight must be proportional to your height. Common medical disqualifiers include color-blindness, asthma and vision not correctable to 20/20.

Selection for AIM is a holistic process which looks at a variety of factors in the student’s life. Weighed in the process are: the online application, teacher recommendation, essay (topic will be provided), and most recent high school transcript. When the four required items are received, the USCGA Admissions Office will evaluate your application. Each student is evaluated by a team independent of other applicants, thus highlighting each individual’s accomplishments. On average, the most qualified 450-500 rising seniors will be selected for the AIM program.

Highly recommended to anyone interested in a career as a US Coast Guard officer.

AIM is great, more structured and a lot tougher than USAFA Summer Seminar, which I also attended.

At SS, we only had about 4 hours of simulated "indoc", while at AIM it started right away and didn't end for 3 days.

If anyone has to choose between the two, go with AIM, you'll get much more out of it, a much closer simulation to an actual USCGA cadet experience than what I saw at USAFA Summer Seminar.
