Last year, the earliest AIM notifications were received beginning May 12th.

We've heard from AFA just Friday, but AIM turn in deadline was just April 1st, so it will be awhile before they let everyone know.

The AIM application review and selection process is suppose to finish tomorrow (Monday, May 5th) so the notification letters should start to get mailed this week. If you call your Admissions Officer, they might (it's worth a shot, right?) tell you something over the phone. Good luck to everyone waiting to hear if they're in...AIM is a great program and the best/only chance you're going to get to test drive Swab Summer.

I got my CGA AIM acceptance today but...

The cost of my summer fun is adding up. USAFA SS + USNA SS for a mid-west kid = $$$. I'd really like to go and I'm seriously considering the Coast Guard but how "worth it" is AIM?

If you are seriously considering USCGA, then AIM is worth it.

If you are seriously considering USNA, then NASS is worth it.

If you are seriously considering USAFA, then SS is worth it.

Maybe now is the time to narrowing your choices. Unlike comparing College A to College B, the academies offer very different experiences with the end result (your required service) also being vastly different from one another.

At CGA, you'll feel closer to the organization as a whole due to the size. You aren't lost in a huge class on a huge campus. When you graduate and are commissioned, the CG mission starts NOW. You aren't practicing for something that may be happening now or in the future.

After several years and tours, you'll be amazed at how well you are connected & tied to the organization. Know that game Seven Degrees of Separation (Kevin Bacon style?). Well, the Coast Guard has about 1-2 degrees of separation. You are only one or two people away from knowing almost everyone in the guard. Can you say that about the AF or the Navy?

The Coast Guard is a small family out there in the real world and we truly care about one another. You won't just be another young officer or new family on the block.

i had an amazing experience at aim...completely reinforced my decision into applying to the academy. The program is the best way to really get a taste of what the academy is about. I'll be reporting in, in a few weeks as a part of class of 2012. I didnt go to the summer programs at any other academies, but lots of people in my aim company did and everyone told me that the AIM program best represented its academy. From what i heard the other schools program's were more about "learning and visiting" the school, while aim is "experiencing" the life. (dont want to stir up any cotroversies with that, thats solely what i've been told from people i know who went to other summer programs).

Since the USCGA is unique in size /structure/majors I would recommend attending AIM and one of the other academy summer sessions.

I went to USAFA SS and AIM last year - I enjoyed AIM much more.

USAFA SS beats AIM hands down when it comes to scenery, but that's about it.

YMMV.
