New Advice for Rday - Men

I recently was at a luncheon honoring the 1/c cadets and welcoming the swabs from our area. We asked the cadets memories of Rday to share with the swabs. One young man mentioned he wished he had cut his hair short before Rday because the academy barber shaved his head and he had to return to the training of the day. BUT he had little hairs down his neck, ears, shirt and itched all day. He told everyone do it ahead of time and get use to it! Thought you might want to consider this!!

My son got his hair cut a week before he went in. We thought he had it cut really short, a little longer on the top, like 1/2 an inch on top/fairly shaved on the sides. When he went to R-Day, they totally shaved his hair off. He was pretty much bald when we saw him later that day, just a little bit of bristle.

I guarantee he's not doing that before hand! Also, I read somewhere if you show up shaved they feel like you shorted them on one of their initiations. We'll have him looking presentable but let them shave him when he gets there.

Where did you read that? In my acceptance packet, they recommend that we get our hair cut before we go so that it's a "comfortable look" for us. I don't see why they would tell us to do something, then be upset when we do.

I'm actually growing mine out a bit before 30 June, that way the "before and after" pictures are a bit more dramatic! That and it'll be the last chance for me to have my hair long for an even longer time.
