A Good Story

I thought I should share a nice story on how dedicated the Coast Guard was in making my appointment presentation for my graduation. I sent in my presentation request three weeks early as required, asking for a Coast Guard official to present my appointment at my graduation. I called the Academy six days prior to graduation and they said I should hear back within the next three days if they managed to find somebody to do it. Two days before my graduation my father called the Academy and requested the script, that they use for the appointment presentations, because we had not heard anything back from the Academy. They were extremely quick and faxed the script within five minutes to my house. The day before graduation, I was going to have my Air Force Academy Liaison Officer present my appointment at my graduation (he seemed the best for the job). Just after I got done with my graduation rehearsal the day before graduation, I got a phone call from my school telling me that two Coast Guard officers were going to arrive tomorrow to present my appointment. I later found out in detail that they were going to fly out four guys in a Coast Guard Helicopter from the Humboldt, CA to Redding, CA. They were going to do avionics testing on the way. The day of graduation I had my Air Force Academy Liaison Officer on stand-by (just in case), and expected the Coast Guard to fly in and present my appointment. In the afternoon I got called saying that the helicopter was grounded due to mechanical problems. So being determined they decided that they would do the four-hour drive in a car. In the end the Coast Guard sent two fine gentlemen one a former graduate from the Academy. In addition they invited me to visit their base before I leave to get a personal tour of the opportunities that are available after graduation from the Academy. Anyway I thought it was a nice story and worth sharing. I would like to thank the Coast Guard for going through all the trouble of presenting my appointment at graduation.

Hey congratulations! We used to live in Eureka, CA and went to Redding often, it's a wonderful city! Let us know if you get to tour Air Station/Group Humboldt Bay.

I hope to meet you at the Academy Zachogden. Redding is a very nice place, it is a lot bigger then it used to be and the traffic gets worse everyday, but there are still plenty of things to do in the outdoors and around town. I am planning on visiting Humboldt on June 23rd, if everything goes as planned.
