Question from USNA Mid...

Hi, My name is Colton, I'm going to be a Mid at USNA this summer.

My Dad's friend at his work is really thinking about applying for the USCGA.

What are the application steps for you guys?

For example, 1. Initial App. Online, 2. Interview...

Like that.

Thanks alot!

I'm sorry, your dad's friend?

Isn't he then in his mid-40s?

The app was all online IIRC and the interview is optional but "recommended."

My father works at a car dealership and one of the mechanics is 19 or 20 I believe.

And I suppose I worded it wrong, I should have said acquaintance, but that is besides the point (obviously not to some of you).

But I had come here wanting a personal account of what its like, I don't know about you Coasties but the USNA process a little more that what they outline in the website, hence why I came here after looking through google.

C'mon...we're just giving you a hard time or at least I was. I'd recommend your father's friend/acquaintance/etc. contact his Admissions Officer if he has questions after reviewing the CGA sites.

Admissions Officers: United States Coast Guard Academy

What exactly does USNA leave off their website? It seems pretty comprehensive to me:

USNA Admissions - Steps for Admission

Sorry if it came off a little offensive.

Going through the USNA app, it was MUCh more lengthly than they really said.

But thank you all very much for the input.

My father was a Coastie By the way!

GO COAST GUARD!

It's basically the same except for no (for now) congressional nomination process.

I would strongly recommend that he visit the CGA. He should probably make sure that he has the background to get in before visiting. It is not easy to get into any top college these days. The SAT test scores for incoming students are nearly identical for the USNA and the USCGA, 570-680 verbal and 610-680 math for the USCGA, and 560-660 verbal and 600-690 math for the USNA. (These are the 25 and 75 percentile marks from the Princeton Review online.)
