Corps of Cadets,

Please read the following message and keep the family members of those involved in your thoughts. We have lost 3 Coast Guardsmen in an HH-65 crash and are currently searching for the 4th member of the crew. The missing pilot is CDR Tom Nelson, class of 1988. Many of his classmates are stationed here at the Academy, among them CDR Carlson, CDR Meese, and CDR Sulmasy.

Very Respectfully,
1/c
Regimental Executive Officer

o At approximately 0630Z (0230 EDT), an HH-65 (C6505), with 4 POB, crashed while conducting training with a STA Hono 47-ft MLB, five nautical miles south of Honolulu Intl Airport
o CGC KISKA (110-foot Patrol Boat), C-130, C17, HH-65, Hawaii Fire Dept Boat are assisting
o An Air Force C17 inbound Hono, saw the helo go down and circled the site until a rescue boat from HFD could get on-scene
o 3 PIW were recovered, CPR was conducted, and PIWs were hoisted by CG HH-65 and transported to Queens Medical Center, LCDR Andrew Wischmeier, AST1 David Skimin, AMT2 Joshua Nichols. 3 PIW were pronounced deceased at the hospital.
o Assets continue to search for 4th crewmember, CDR Thomas Nelson (Station XO).

Tom Nelson is CGA '88. Class of '88, together as always, has sent out the word to each other
