It's Getting Closer Folks

Although the security people kept me out of Leamy Hall for the parents' meeting regarding Grad Week, here are some key highlights...along with my wise guy commentary:

Class wine

This is a commemorative wine with design label

~3-4 options available (comes in by bottle or case). There is some discussion that there might even be a class beer. "Great, how about something for non drinkers like me...the "Class Soft Drink."

Parents may want to include write-ups to be included in the yearbook....Pay attention to deadlines- "Why should we start now?"

Be sure to pick up your wine order at the designated pick-up time during graduation week. USCGA will NOT ship these wine orders. "I thought they were gonna send the Eagle up the Housatonic with mine."

Don't know who will be the commencement speaker for 2009 graduation. (Will likely not know until next semester.) "Barack Obama-take that to the bank."

Indoor commencement (should there be thundering/lightening) - 4 tickets/cadet - "Big trouble...I have five siblings, a granny, several cousins, three kids, two ex-wives and a girlfiend who all want to go."

The remaining commencement attendees (ie, other than the 4) will be at remote locations i.e. Pride Rock, The Gold Club, Mr. G's

When you order tickets (or consider lodging), please be sure to include your cadet "Why, this isn't about them."

Tux and gowns preferred, though you may wear your "dressy best". "Then I can wear my 'zoot suit?'"

Ms. Bowman mentioned that if any of your party attending graduation week has special needs (eg, elderly, shuttle needs, vegetarian diet, wheelchair, etc) "Good because Ol' 85 is a vegan."

Graduation week starts the Saturday night before commencement, and there's activities planned for every day and evening (with the exception for the evening [ie, Tuesday evening] before commencement). "Good those kids will need their sleep."

Commencement is ~11 am

Your ensign is expected to check out of the USCGA by 14:00 (ie, 2 pm) after commencement: "And his room must be 'broom clean' or deposits will not be returned."

God I should write for "Family Guy." I'm that good...and remember the days we worried about "tighty wities?"

I'm so kicked out of the parents club for this...good thing I didn't send in that last dues check.

On a more serious note, how pumped are we for these gems?

Billet Night (March 5, 2008)...which happens before Spring Leave

Castle Dance (April 18, 2008 at the Rose Cliff Mansion in Newport, RI)...this is the 2009 Class Party and planned by the Class.

Dining-In (in April 2008)....this is an honored, military event during which the 1c cadets are welcomed into the officer corps

Moving - your cadet will give the movers a date of when to move their stuff from your home. There is a weight limit (the info on the limit will be provided to your cadet). Vehicles are driven (or shipped if outside continental US).

Next stop: Guam...for me not the lad.

Uh I think she means 2009 on all these dates...otherwise we missed 'em.
