My daughter just got the email--AIM here she comes! She's so excited and we're excited for her. And it looks like her plane connections to Detroit and Rome afterwards are going to work! Anyone else hear yet?

Congrats heartcross: I hope your daughter enjoys it as much as I did. I report on the 27th of June. Your daughter will likely see all the SWABS running around and marching. Well good luck!

They said it would be out May 16th. That's tomorrow. I havn't gotten an email yet, so I hope that doesnt mean that they send out acceptances first

Dear Elizabeth:
Thank you for applying to the U.S. Coast Guard Academy Introduction Mission (AIM) program. A record number of rising high school seniors joined you applying this year. Im pleased to let you know the review committee was impressed with your record, finding you among a select group of students well qualified to attend AIM.

Unfortunately, we were not able to offer a spot to all of the students with your qualifications. Therefore, we instituted a lottery-system to choose among the best qualified applicants. Although you faired well in the review process, and your name was submitted to the pool, you were not selected in this lottery.

Because I think highly of you, we are making visitation opportunities available to you that are not available to other class of 2010 applicants:

First, you are invited to visit overnight, paired with a cadet host, this fall in a new program available only to qualified AIM applicants like you. Normally, this privilege occurs in the spring and is reserved only for those with either a conditional or full appointment. Space is limited to 40 students per week on the following days: Sep 22-23, 29-30, Oct 6-7, 13-14, 20-21, 27-28, Nov 3-4, 17-18 and Dec 1-2. The stay begins Thursday at 11:00 a.m. and ends Friday at 1:00 p.m.
Second, if unable to visit overnight, you have a priority invitation for our invitation only Open House on Saturday September 24 from 8:30 a.m. to approx 4:30 p.m.. Space will be limited to 100 families.
We will open the registration for both visitation programs on 01 August, so please mark your calendars and stay tuned for email and regular mail announcements.

Additionally, in an effort to streamline the application process, you will be contacted this summer by the Department of Defense Medical Exam Review Board (DODMERB) to schedule a medical exam on behalf of the Coast Guard Academy admissions office. The medical exam is required as part of the admission application process to all service academies and ROTC programs. Applicants who earn their medical qualifications early are more likely to receive full appointments early.

AIM is a wonderful program, but by no means the only way to see if you are up to the challenge of a Coast Guard Academy education. In fact, about 75% of our cadets never attend AIM, but nearly everyone visits at least once before enrolling. Regardless of how or when you visit, please consider these options. You have the potential to excel and earn the privilege of serving in Americas most distinctive Armed Service. I sincerely hope you will take advantage of these opportunities!

I got the same deal last year. I was among the "select group" not chosen but qualified. I was offered an opportunity to attend an open house by invitation only, an overnight stay, and a personal information session over the course of 4 days. While I was not able to attend this event, I did receive a full appointment this past Febuary. Not off a waitlist, not conditional, but a full appointment. Not getting into AIM and then applying to the Academy shows just as much if not more resolve than actually going to AIM.

Just remember that, AIM means absolutely nothing. It is the best opportunity to see the academy and to live the military life for a few days, don't get me wrong. But it isn't the real deal, it is a summer camp. Keep up the good work, and congrats to all who did get into the program.

damn, i got into the lottery thing too... and didnt get picked

how many people were put into the lottery, and how many were selected?

does anybody know anybody who was straight out denied admission?

There may have been a mail glitch of some kind. I was supposed to get notice last week, but instead had to write the guy and he said I got in (this happened today)...if y'all didn't letters, write the guy in charge and see if the email was fouled up. Good luck!
