SAT scores

For the class of 2011, the average SAT score was 1275. This score only includes the math and critical reading sections. While the Coast Guard Academy requires applicants to submit a Writing score, it's not included in the academic review of an applicant's file.

According to the Academy's website, "There is no minimum test score requirement for the U.S. Coast Guard Academy. Successful candidates usually score at least 1100 combined Critical Reading (Verbal) and Math on the SAT, or have an ACT Composite of at least 24."

As a junior, you have a chance to retake the tests and do better, but I'd stress that the admissions process is a holistic one with candidates evaluated on aspects of their preparation, including courses taken, GPA, class rank, leadership experience, athletics, etc.

Hi Luigi, Where do you get your information from? I'm surprised that they already let in 235 students already via EA, b/c don't they only have like 350 spots total?

The USCGA Class of 2013 is expected to have around 275 swabs.

Traditionally the appointment acceptance rate is around 70%.

Some will decline appointments to go elsewhere, and some will fail to obtain waivers for pending DODMERB dq's (they were given conditional appointments).

Therefore they will award somewhere around 400 total appointments to get to that final 275 number.
