Possibility of getting into the Coast Guard Academy

I'm in my junior year and my first choice is the academy. I have all the extracurricular activities, such as clubs, church, awards, sports, etc. I feel I did well on my SATs with a 1820. The only thing that concerns me is that i have about a 3.2 GPA, thats with honors and gifted classes though. And my high school is easily one of the top high schools in Georgia from an academic stand point. I'm planning on applying to AIM, cadet for a day, and taking a visit up to New London. But will my low GPA hold me back from getting accepted to the academy? What are my chances of getting in?

Honesty appreciated.
Thanks

The Academy admissions process is holistic taking all aspects of the candidate's HS background and using them in a balanced assessment. I'd be curious how you did on the math part of the SATs and what courses you've taken that were honors, AP, or otherwise enriched especially in Math and Science. I'd also tell you that what you have scheduled for your senior year (continuing to take challenging courses) will have an impact on your evaluation.

I've taken three years of honors english. In science I've taken honors biology and chemistry. Also I'm in honors analysis(pre-calc). I'm planning on taking AP calculous, AP biology, AP euro history, and honors english my senior year.

My SAT scores were: Math-660 Writing-580 Critical Reading-580

Also is there any advantages to early action?

Many.

You are competing for an appointment from a limited number of appointments. The number of available appointments is never higher than it is at the EA decision date.

If USCGA is your #1 choice and you get an EA appointment, your college search is over before Christmas.

EA is non-binding and you do not have to decide to accept/decline until May 1.

EA does not prevent you from applying to other schools.

If awarded an EA conditional appointment, you still have 6 months to clear DODMERB.

I agree with Luigi. EA is all advantage, no disadvantage. Your credentials and course plans look good. You should be a competitive applicant. Go for it!
