How tough is it to get into USCGA academically?

What are average gpa's coming out of high school to make it in?
Is getting into the AIM program mostly dependent upon great grades? Or do sports and great recommendations along with average grades good enough to get it?

The criteria for AIM selection is close to the appointment critieria - grades, athletics, recommendation letters, test scores, transcripts, etc. However, no PFE or DODMERB qualification is needed.
