D entered the art competition by mail. We live 1000+ miles away. How much of a party school is this? What do you mean by the common student? Any info you can give is appreciated. Thanks!

By common, I mean good test scores, but you don't need a 2400 SAT. I don't notice a big party scene, but like any other college I am sure it is there if you look hard enough.

We visited this school by chance (passing through town) and were pleasantly surprised by everything about it. The students are the most down to earth group we have encountered and the Adminstration was great. The town isn't bad and it has an urban feel for Iowa. It is the midwest and it does get cold. A lot of new buildings on campus and everything is well kept.

This school is worth a look!

I know it gets cold. When I spoke to the admissions office in January and asked about the weather it was minus 42! Without the windchill! Did you see the art facilities? Are they new?

Did you get the feeling alot of kids go home on the weekends?

D received very generous scholarship so we are deciding if we should fly out. Does it have a similar feel to another school in the midwest or northeast?

We were told a lot of Freshmen go home for the weekend. There is some weekend partying going on.

Keep in mind the school is very small and everything is within a short walk. Most of the building are well kept. They are really trying to upgrade the academic caliber of their student body, but as I said before, the group of students we encountered were very cordial and engaging.
