Chances for current junior?

Hello,

I am a current junior interested in Colby, especially for it's environmental program.

I will apply ED. My GPA will be something around a 3.7 I believe. My school doesn't grade on the same scale. However, it is one of the most well-known and rigorous boarding schools in New England. We usually send a few students to Colby every year. According to my school's Naviance, I am above the average GPA and SAT accepted from my school, if that matters.

SAT I: 1970, 2010 Superscore

Extras: Captain Varsity Cross Country, Captain Varsity Squash, Varsity Crew
-President of Environment Club for 3 years
-Member of Community Service Club
-Staff writer school newspaper
-work on an urban renewal organic farm project. I will also likely write my essay about this experience.
-Various community service

Also, I will likely be a recruit for rowing. I know the coaches don't have a huge pull at a small school like Colby, but it will probably help a little bit.

Thank you!

And I have already taken 2 AP courses, European and American history. Sorry for the rapid-fire posting haha.

I love the Jan Plan program. Is it all it's cracked up to be? I really hope so. It reminds me of my early home schooled years, as far as the independence and stuff. I have a huge passion for travel, and I think that Jan Plan would allow for some cool academic travel trips.

I think you should apply if you are that interested in Colby, regardless. Go for it! Having said that, if you have a 3.7 GPA I would say should come in with a minimum of 2100+ on your SAT's or a 31 or 32+ on your ACT's to be seriously considered for admission, unless you are recruited for a sport by a coach with a lot of pull. The median SAT score for each component of the SAT for those admitted for the class of 2015 was 700M, 700 CR, and 710W. It doesn't speak well to come in saying, "Well, my scores are in the bottom half of those admitted," which is where you are currently. The Median ACT composite was 31. You really need to be above the Median scores unless you have some. How far back does your Naviance program look when computing who does and does not be admitted? Colby has gotten harder to get into in the last couple of years, with many fewer students being admitted from those who applied than in previous years. If I were you I would take the ACT exam, with writing and see how you do. What have you got to lose?

My critical reading was a 710 and my writing was a 700. It's just my math that needs work haha... I'm not sure what went wrong. Hopefully it will go up after I study a bit more.

I'm not sure how far back the Naviance goes. I will ask to be sure.

It seems as if Colby is one of the schools where ED helps a lot. Is this a correct assumption? Also, what exactly is up with EDII? Why is the acceptance rate lower than RD?
Thanks!

According to the Colby website, the ed II admission rate for the class of 2016 was about 34%. Regular decision was 26%.

EDI was 61? Wow, that's higher than I would have expected. So apparently it would be worthwhile to apply early...
