ZipCars @ Colby

Greetings---Son#1 (rising junior) will need a car once a week for some work he does with CCAK.
Instead of taking his car and dealing with the hassle factor of that---snow, out of state license plates attracting attention of the local police etc, we thought about signing him up for the Zip car program @ Colby

Has anyone used this service? If so, is there decent availability for cars during the day?
How far ahead of time do you have to sign up for a car?

Once he gets back to school he should be on a regular schedule with CCAK so his need for transportation will be predictable

Thanks for your guidance

I have not used Zipcar at Colby (being under 21 and having had an accident, I'm not insurable under their program), but I do see the two cars sitting out by Bob's more often than not during the middle of the day.

On a related note, is your son aware that CCAK actually has two cars for mentor use in driving to sites? The only stipulation is that you have to be a Colby Certified Driver to use them (i.e. you have to take an hour class with security about "safe driving").

Thanks White Mule
No, he was not aware of the CCAK cars--I will mention it to him
We will also look into Zipcar but he too had an accident when he first got his license 4 years ago (who hasn't?) and that may make him ineligible--I will have him call
He is soon to be 21 so that may change things

Thanks again---
