Can someone please describe what all the dorms are like at Colby?

I am an incoming freshmen and I was assigned to west quad. Is west quad nice compared to the other dorms? Also can we change dorms?

West is older, with mostly singles and doubles, and a few triples on its ends. I believe its chem-free this year. While I wouldn't consider West to be the nicest dorm on campus (AMS earns that distinction imo), keep in mind that all of Colby's dorms are nice compared to larger universities.

It's going to be very hard to change rooms this year. I know students still on the waiting list for housing, and I wouldn't be surprised if every single bed on campus is filled this fall. That being said, the only way you're going to change is if somebody else wants to move, and campus life swaps you.

Mary Low/Coburn were chem-free/quiet until this year, so they've been upkept slightly better than normal dorms. Both are almost entirely singles and doubles (I think both have one quad). Coburn has especially heavy doors (by virtue of its former quiet status), while Mary Low has paper thin walls.

Heights is going to be a **** show this year. Expect hundreds of people every weekend overflowing from parties in the quads (12 quads in all). No joke. As an actual dorm, it isn't the nicest, and it takes a beating every year in terms of dorm damage (except for this past year when it was chem-free). But the fun you're going to have is unequaled (although Dana and Foss/Woodman come close).

In terms of heights rooms, the two-room doubles are essentially two singles with a door in-between. The overhead lighting is poor, I would suggest bringing several lamps. You can access the roof of Heights from some of the rooms, which is cool. That's about all I know, I lived in AMS my first two years...

Do you know anything about East triples or just East in general (although I assume that it is similar to West)?
