Siiiigh.

I really like this school, but I only have a 3.8 weighted GPA.
I'm from this notoriously competitive high school in MA, and it's so difficult to really get a solid A, so I'm feeling a little pressure from those who go to easier high schools.
I'm in National Honors Society though, that counts for something, right?

We don't rank, and my EC's are pretty good. I haven't taken my SATs or ACTs yet, but I got a 710 on Bio.

Should I still apply anyway? According to Naviance, the average GPA of students applying from my school is a 4.3, which would be near impossible to bring up just through the first half of the school year.

Any suggestions? If you need more details than I can definitely put them up...but I'm thinking about applying anyway (and definitely interviewing), but not if I think I don't have a chance. I'm also considering Bates, but I don't want to drive all the way to Maine if it's not worth it.

If you really like the school, look at it anyway. I personally found Naviance to be helpful as a ballpark estimator for applications...but only from my school. I don't think that it is as useful as a schools median SAT range. Also, GPA is very subjective. The standard varies so much from school to school that if a 3.8 can get you into your schools NHS, it might be as good as a 4.0 somewhere else.

If you live in MA, it shouldn't be that far of a drive. Depending on where you live in MA, you might be able to visit both Colby and Bates (although Colby is clearly better ) in one day.

Bottom line, don't get so down on yourself and write yourself off.
