Any Chance at all and next steps

Hi everyone

Here are my stats
88 avg of 3.3 gpa from very competetive LI NY private school. No idea about weighting
17th percentile rank
1310 SAT 670 math 640 verbal
620 writing

Good recs etc

Involved in extras but only about 4 clubs/activities so nothing out of the ordinary

If I have any chance should I go there and try and meet with them. Should I call to express my interest.

Any real advice helpful

Honestly, I don't think that you have a chance at all, unless you are a URM or are able to run a 4.4.

Both your GPA and SAT scores are really low for Colgate. If your school is really competitive, your rank won't matter. I know guys who where just inside the top half in their class, but they went to what is probably the best school in the city. Their SAT were more than 100 points higher than yours too.

Not really having much ec. (based on what you said) doesn't help either.

As for next steps, raise your SAT scores over 100 points (even more for the new SAT). Improve your GPA a lot. Try to find some activities that is notable, maybe even just for an essay so that it looks like you greatly cared for the activity. Interest helps some, but you are just too much of a long shot. If I were you, I would focus on someplace that is not a super reach. May want to look into Lafayette.

Your stats and ECs certainly aren't stunning, but you have a chance. I would suggest that, if you really want to go to Colgate, you should definitely try to show interest in the school and put forth a lot of effort into your essays, etc.

I don't know what grade you are in, but, as Colgate13 suggested, you should definitely try to boost your GPA and SAT scores. Also, looking for some more ECs couldn't hurt. Don't go crazy and sign up for a ton of random clubs- but try to find a few more activities similar to those you are already involved in, so that you can demonstrate increased involvement rather than resume padding.

Colgate is a reach for you, but, if its what you want, then you should definitely try. Just make sure you don't get too set on it, find yourself a great safety as well. Most importantly, make sure you put your best effort into your application. Good luck!

I am a senior so there is not much more I can do at this point but I will do what I can. Is there a way I can find out who my admissions reviewer is?

I forget right now how they review apps, but you can find out you is the primary person who reads your app. I remember other people talking about doing what you want to do.

Honestly, if I were you, I would spend my time expressing interest at other schools. You would have a better shot at seeing some kind of payoff for your efforts. I saw that you ask the same question about Bucknell. You have a more realistic shot at getting in there. That's where I would focus.
