hey...
i'm applying RD
93 UW avg...112 weighted...i know the 93 is about a 3.9 but i don't know what the weighted is.
class rank 4/380
i've taken the hardest courseload possible (8/9 aps offered, all honors)
my school is a really good public school in Fairfield County (CT)
highest sat: 770 math 730 verbal 670 writing (only took new SAT once)
sat subjects: 790 math 2c 720 physics 710 spanish reading
some honors, stuff...most important = National Merit Semifinalist (i find out in Feb whether or not i'm a finalist...duh duh duh.)
decent ec's...always involved (but very little community service...i'm always busy!)
Your stats look pretty good. SAT w/ writing is a little low, but, since most colleges arent considering the writing section as much as the math/verbal this year, you're in pretty good shape. National Merit helps too. As long as your ECs/essays are good, I think you have an excellent shot. (Of course, I'm also applying RD this year, so I am by no means an authority on the matter.) Good luck!
What I want to know is what kind of crazy weighting system does your school use that your weighted gpa is 20 points higher? My school also used a 100 scale, but my weighted gpa was not that much higher than my unweighted, like 5 points. They have to be giving some classes like a 20% weight.
Wow, that system is really unfair to everyone. My guess is that it forces people to take AP class who would not normally take it in that subject, thus hurting them and holding back kids who really want to be there. A 70 in an AP class is not equal to a 100 in a regular class.
For comparison, my school gave 6% for a AP classes, 3% for honors like classes, and 1% for some classes that where harder than the rest.
it doesn't necessarily hold back the smarter kids...they still shine...i guess in some ways though, they don't get the attention they deserve at the AP level.
the largest AP class for seniors by far is AP Psych...and some of the kids in my class are definitely idiots.
The way you say it, it sounds so much worse...but i guess for college they even out weighting, or get rid of it, so they'll either see a 3.9 or some other number...i think it ends up making sense.
