So, I realized that there are some subtle grammatical errors in my Colgate essay (two to be exact... they deal with tenses/wording, so at most they sound awkward if you read far into them) and one awkward sentence in my 150 word commonapp essay. I know exactly how I should have fixed them and am dreading the thought that I might be rejected for a petty mistake (see "So I've Fallen for Colgate~" post for stats?) --I'm pretty well rounded otherwise. I applied EDII and sent in a personal portfolio with a (what I consider to be very rich) activity resume, very brief personal letter to Colgate with pictures, a snippet about me and samples of my artwork. I'm also a NY resident and a first-generation college student. I will require financial aid, but... is it worth the stress or am I panicking over nothing? I would love if someone could read over these two brief essays and give me an opinion; should I risk faxing over corrected copies, should I call admissions and ask their advice--or will this hurt me? I was considering sending in (via fax) a writing sample from one of my novels or an expanded resume... too much?

I wouldn't send in any additional materials now - ED II applications are considered on a rolling basis so your application is probably being reviewed now. In any event you've already sent in a lot, and more isn't necessarily better.

When I visited Colgate, the admissions counselor told us a story about one of their previous applicants who had written their essay entirely about "brocolli." Yes, that's "brocolli" not "broccoli" and was still accepted. Content counts more than grammar and spelling, as long as everything else is in order, you should be fine. I wouldn't suggest sending in corrections- you may be drawing attention to something they won't even notice otherwise. Also, I agree with jrpar, you have already sent a lot in, no sense inundating them with more materials. IF you want, I can read your essays for you. Good luck!
