Letter Saying That They're Reading My Application

I just got a letter in the mail today saying that they're looking at my application. Although it was nice of them to send it, I guess, I totally was hoping that it was an acceptance letter telling me that I was an Alumni Memorial scholar. It was First Class Mail and everything. I guess I shoud have known since it was a thin envalope. Bummer. Did anyone else get one of these letters?

my son received the same letter today. although it had a 'handwritten' note on the bottom, I have a feeling that this is a form letter that is going out to all of the applicants.

yes, my son received this also with the "handwritten note" at bottom. I'm sure it is indeed a form letter but I must say I have been very impressed with all the materials that Colgate produces. All of their catalogues and pamphlets are very well designed with beautiful photography and very nicely printed. And the admissions office is so friendly - so nice to see a school that really makes a nice effort.

My sister and I were so excited when we got the mail today and saw a big white envelope from Colgate (sent First Class, 8x11 envelope). It was just the letter and a brochure! Great to receive them, but I wish they had another kind of packaging to use!

So, what is the purpose of Colgate spending the time and money to send a letter like this? I guess they have to give you something for your $55 application fee.
