What's the food like at Colgate? just curious...

Pretty good. Some people hate Frank downright and are pretty suspicious like my roommate (I can't even get her to make sense!!!). But I'm fine with it... there's more hits than miss nights.... unlike the Edge (a smaller dining hall) has more miss nights with me. I usually just eat there for dinner or brunch.

But I'm a COOP lover so I'm always there for lunch and occasionally breakfast or dinner- I love how everything is portion controlled so once I cash out, I can't go and get more. Yay for wraps and yummy pasta! And huge salads for meals. Plus I love the staff there.

But I can't wait to cook on my own after this year!

The food at Colgate is about the only complaint I've ever heard from my daughter. She doesn't care for it much. The food service is provided by Sodexho, a large company that provides food services for companies, school districts, healthcare, concessions etc. So it's pretty standard. Unlike Tickle, she prefers the Edge and the Coop over Frank .

But then again

In high school she was a vegetarian, at one point even vegan. And where we live there are many high end food stores like Whole Foods, Greenfields, Fairway and restaurants like Zen Palate. For someone used to that faire Colgate doesn't offer much in the way of tasty fresh cooked veggies. When I was up for a visit I myself thought there seemed to be a lot of starchy carbs.

Which is pretty much the diet most college students like.

BTW, food aside, Frank and the Coop are very attractive appetizing looking places to eat. Frank:

Oh another note- not exactly a friendly place for vegetarians.... though I do manage to make vegetarian means quite a few times a week (more like once a day if I'm lucky).

I know that a couple of students started Chili Willy's Underground Cafe a year or two back:

and I had an excellent chili (with a side of yummy baked marinated tofu) at the the health food shop/restaurant on Broad Street Monday afternoon, but I don't know about the dorm food or Chinese selections. Supposedly if you make suggetions to the Food Halls they will try to abide; and my daughter told me that they had recently had "sushi". But it was still Sodhexo food service sushi.

Whenever she comes home from school the first thing she wants is real sushi. And when we went out for dinner on Monday night, we went to the Tap Room at the Colgate Inn where I watched my former prtein deprived vegetarian devour steak and mashed potatoes. Even wiped the plate clean. It was like watching a movie, I've never seen her eat like that.

It was fascinting, but back at the dorm she and her roommates were more intersted in talking about her dinner (supposedly it was pancake night !? in Frank).

ROFL- I do just that, devouring in iron-rich, protein-rich food when I'm eating off campus. I tell my mother every time she asks what she can cook for my first dinner back- I say anything with red meat! I mean, maybe your D changed her eating habits- picking up meat.

That was Hamilton Whole Foods that you ate at- some good stuff!

I also request for sushi when I'm asked at home where I'd like to go out. I think I ordered about 3-4 sushi dinners when I was home for January break. Sushi Blues.... I've heard bad food because they get their orders in on Mondays and by the time students roll in on weekends, the food isn't so fresh anymore.

The Dining Services is pretty terrrific about trying to make the students' wishes come true. I've had it happened to me with whole wheat wraps

As for Chinese- the COOP does serve Asian stir-fry every night. I personally don't like it because they don't cook the noodles enough. I don't like stir-fry anyway. Frank will serve Chinese every once in a while. Mexican food is more common with quesdillas and burritos served at lunch and dinner.
