Most colleges say that they release their decision by April 1st to allow them more time, if necessary, to review applications, especially if they received more applications than they had anticipated. [Yale, for instance, had more EASC applicants than they'd anticipated and therefore people got deferred simply because their app was never reviewed...but I digress.] The truth is that most colleges will release their decisions in the last 10 days of March.
As for doing things by mail, I actually think it's fair for people who may not be able to access their e-mail accounts daily for whatever reason. This may not be Colgate's thought process, but if it is, it's nice to see that some colleges are trying to make everyone equal.
