stats of waitlisted applicants

Decision: Waitlisted
SAT I: M700, W700, CR590
SAT 2s: French-680, IC-710
No class rank, but top 20% at a private school with 50 kids in the grade(top 10% is off to schools like Wash U, NYU with $15000 merit scholarship in an honors program, Duke, and vassar)
ECs:very good, including almost 200 hours of community service, and soccer team capt., and MUN
essays: very good
Recommendations: probably not as strong, but i have no idea
Also, I have a crappy counselor, and go to a school that is not set on getting students into top schools, which is why people go to places like pace, and suny buffalo.

I think my critical reading score was the reason I got waitlisted. I have a B+/A- average, and am taking 2 APs next month.

My son has very similar stats and 3 alumns and he was rejected. So feel good about it!! He goes to a private school also and is the top 15% out of 30. No class rank and a B+ A- student at a very difficult school with lots of AP's .He aslo has great extra circs and tons of community service, Go figure.Don't feel bad- this year is a tough year with all the applications that kids are sending out. Being waitlisted may not be a bad thing this year?? Our counselor thought my s was almost a for sure into Colgate and hamilton. He was rejected from both??? We were surprised but have other really good schools he is considering. good luck to you!

waitlisted...
GPA: 3.9
Rank: 11/179...
AP and honors classes
SATs: 660 660 670
SAT IIs: ick
excellent recs (it might have been the diff between waitlisted and rejected, because they seriously were out of this world), good essay
ECs: synchronized ice skating team member for 7 years, captain for past 4 (not your usual kind of EC, but it shows dedication I suppose), piano studies for 8 years, tutoring, Latin Club, National Honors society, figure skating coach, volunteer for Learn to Skate Program, a few awards to my name...there's other stuff too but those are the main things I guess.

My SAT IIs killed me; they were in the average/slightly below average range for a school like Colgate...I'm seriously ashamed of them.
