| East Hall Quad?
Yes, I know, I'm always asking the housing questions. But what better a place to ask them?
I know that East Hall has two quads on the fifth floor... any takes on those? I want a quad and I'd like East Hall, but are they isolated? Are they as nice as the other quads? Are they hard to get if you request them? Or should I just stick with a double?

well... it's pretty easy to isolate yourself in quads.... Quads are not hard to get overall as Andrews and Stillman have them. If you ask for East Hall specfically, there's no guarantee of getting the quad AND compatible roommates.

Quads are very popular. My son put "quad" as his first choice last year on the housing form, but didn't get one. He ended up in a double (his last choice). Not a big deal though - he's been happy with his dorm/roommate.

jpar, can you request what building you want to be in?
And when do we get housing forms. I didn't see them in my acceptance package, do they send them after we send our deposit?

i went up yesterday- quads are most recomended because your odds of becoming good friends with at least 1/3 roomates is greater...and you dont get on each others personal space as much

Hansel, there is some debate as to whether asking for a particular dorm works. It did work for my daughter last year, but not for jrpar's. The housing forms ask for your preferences and what you are like: neat/sloppy, study in the room or library smoking/non smoking etc. The best thing to do is when the housing forms come (later in the Spring late May or early June I think), put down preferences which will as much as possible point to the dorm you want. And then, even though there is no place for it on the form, put down the name of the particular dorm you want.
If you get a chance to visit, definitely check out the dorm though first. At Stillman, when it came time to move in we were shocked at the incredibly small space of the quad rooms. It's worked out fine, but other than the absence of hammocks, it's almost as tightly packed as the sleeping quarters you see in a WW II submarine movie.

I agree with mhc48 - by all means, put down a specific dorm if you have a preference. It doesn't always work but I don't think it can hurt. My kid listed two specific dorms, and ranked quad as #1, but was assigned something else - he has been happy where he ended up, so I wouldn't worry about it too much.

i visisted both... colgates social life is 100x better than hopkins and the teachers are much better as well; and the people are; and the activities/ overall levels of fun are greater at colgate
the only thing hopkins has over colgate is prestige and being able to say "yeah ... i go to hopkins!"

A quad is a 4 person room. It wasn't a stupid question, because a quad is also a courtyard area, usually with benches.
