taking a year and a half to build a $55 million dollar library in the exact spot where there already was a library is ridiculous?

I thought it was January, 2007? That's only 8 months away. The end result will be astounding and will easily be the envy of many of Colgate's peer institutions. Regardless of the inconveniences, I'm guessing it will be worth the wait!

yeah, but without it, where will we study? they only have one library? that would suck if the only place to do work is in the dorm rooms...

I'm not sure on specifics, but I know they have other places set up for studying and whatnot.

Sigh! Let me help you all out. Please, please don't make this your factor- after all, the class of 2009 were willing to overcome this!

There are STILL two libraries! Cooley (the science library in the basement of McGregory hall) looks like a real library- stacks of books everywhere, computers, blah, blah, things you find in your high school library.

The other library-Case- is in James Colgate Hall (Hall of President) right now. There is still a circulation desk, a reference area with a bunch of computers and reference books in an attached trailer. The upstairs is the reading/studying room with more computers, lots of tables and chairs (and very comfy chairs too), and some tvs to watch your class videos. The only thing that's missing is the bookshelves to wander through.

You can STILL get your books through the LASR system... supposedly the books are buried under the hill on bookshelves where the robot comes around with a bin and picks up all of the books you requested (as many as you want) and brings them to the circulation desk. From there, you can look through your books before checking them out.

It's easy- just gotta learn to plan ahead, which most people have definitely learned this year! The librarians are amazing- they really help you navigate through the system and teach you how to order books from other libraries and get photocopies from unavailable sources. Now, I don't mind the lack of the library so much.

The new library is set to open before the spring semester

Tick, as I understand it, students who want to check out books (locally and from other places) through the LASR system also get an e-mail on their Colgate e-mail account, telling them that the book is available for pick up.

And isn't the Student Union also being used for studying?

OTOH, what did you think of Matt Oja's statements in the Maroon?

Yup- but not from LASR system because it'd typically arrive in about an hour or so. Just remember to pick it up. The other places take several days.

Yup- definitely being used for studying.

Oh I thought his statements were unfair. He didn't give Colgate enough credit... I'm not complaining! It's a bit unsettling at first to work in HOP but you get used to it and block out the high ceilings. Doors... oy but no one slams.
