I thought I read that Colgate just dropped their swim test requirement and lowered their gym credits needed for graduation from four to two. The swim test is swimming eight lengths, treading water for five minutes and then swimming eight more lengths. Over four years, there were probably at least 20 possible dates to take the swim test (including several in the last few weeks before graduation).
When I was there, I think the language requirement was three years of language in high school, AP test score of 3 (which no one is probably going to attempt w/o at least three years of language) or a certain SAT II test score (although I thought it may have been a little higher than 580).
I found it was relatively rare to take five classes in a semester (that is the most that is allowed). I actually did take five classes in 3/8 semesters, basically either to try to keep my options open in deciding what to major in or because I just had trouble narrowing my choices down to four classes. I may have made my life a little more difficult by doing this, but it wasn't too bad.
