Language Proficiency, Swim test, and course load questions.

I thought that there was a requirement that all students had to demonstrate proficiency in a foreign language. I recall reading somewhere that recieving a score of 580 or above on the appropriate SAT2 test would fulfill this requirement. Is that true?

What is this swim test all about, how hard is it to pass and when are you tested for it?

I see that 4 courses per semester is the normal load. Is it very difficult or rare to take more than that?

Thanks so much. Sorry that this are all so disjointed questions!

I thought I read that Colgate just dropped their swim test requirement and lowered their gym credits needed for graduation from four to two. The swim test is swimming eight lengths, treading water for five minutes and then swimming eight more lengths. Over four years, there were probably at least 20 possible dates to take the swim test (including several in the last few weeks before graduation).

When I was there, I think the language requirement was three years of language in high school, AP test score of 3 (which no one is probably going to attempt w/o at least three years of language) or a certain SAT II test score (although I thought it may have been a little higher than 580).

I found it was relatively rare to take five classes in a semester (that is the most that is allowed). I actually did take five classes in 3/8 semesters, basically either to try to keep my options open in deciding what to major in or because I just had trouble narrowing my choices down to four classes. I may have made my life a little more difficult by doing this, but it wasn't too bad.

No more swim tests! YAY!

Your class would be the first to go through with required gym credits of only 2. Lots of options- including club sports.

Course load average is 4. Tough.... but doable. 5... hmmm.

No swim test anymore; three years of high school language gets you out of any language requirement - I don't think there is an SAT II test minimum for the language requirement.
