How impactful, if at all, is a good word from the music department to admissions for an ED applicant? Also, on a related note, although I understand that interviews are not evaluative, if D was fortunate enough to get an interview with one of the admissions deans, would a favorable impression affect her ED chances? Finally, are applications assigned to adcoms on a geographic basis so that the adcom assigned to recruit in, Mass, for example, would read applications from Mass? Any help would be appreciated.

You are asking questions that are tough if not impossible to answer! I think that submitting a recording and getting an endorsement from the music department would certainly help, but only an admissions officer could tell you HOW much. Colgate says that interviews don't count in the decision process, and that whether or not a student has interviewed isn't even noted in their file; however, logically if the student made a good impression, that has got to help a little bit. Finally, I do think that files are read by the admissions officer responsible for a geographical area (I remember my son's high school college counselor telling him that), but I think another admissions officer also reads the file.

Forget about using the interview- already tried that and didn't get in anyway (the first time). Let your D use it if she just wants to find out more about Colgate though she's way better off getting in touch with students if she's looking to "interview Colgate."
