Hancock International Airport in Syracuse is a a fairly major hub. American Eagle Continental, Delta, JetBlue, Northwest, United Express and USAirways all fly into there. There's a US Customs Office there.
And by the way, the City of Syracuse Department of Aviation was presented with the 2005-2006 Balchen/Post Award for Excellence in the Performance of Snow and Ice Control for Syracuse Hancock International Airport at the recent International Aviation Snow Symposium sponsored by the Northeast Chapter of the American Association of Airport Executives in Buffalo, New York.
The only time you'll have trouble flying in is pretty much when nothing else on the East Coast is even taking off. And as someone else said, those road crews in Upstate NY know how to get snow off the roads. The kids at Colgate give friends rides to Syracuse, Albany and my daughter usually drives one or two friends back with her to NYC or Long Island. Really, getting there and back home is nothing to worry about. A far bigger problem is getting your parents close by accomdations during visiting weekend, homecoming and graduation!
