Colgate ED??

I am thinking about applying ED to Colgate. I am a Hispanic male from Florida with an UW GPA of 3.65. My scores are at the bottom. Do I have a shot?

Courses I am planning to take Senior Year
AP English Language
AP Spanish Language
AP Government
Honors Statistics
Marine Biology/Oceanography

I have been a member of the following sports teams. I plan to continue all of my sports throughout senior year:

JV Cross Country 9-10 (captain)
Varsity Cross Country 11-12 (will be a captain)
Varsity Wrestling 8-12 (will be a captain)
Founding member of First Lacrosse Team (Plant Panthers) in Tampa (7th)
Varsity Lacrosse on the Panthers 8-10
Varsity Lacrosse (founded the team) 11-12 (will be a captain)

Extracurricular Activities:
Tour Guide (11)
Assistant Head Tour Guide (12)
Lacrosse Club 9-12 (founder)
Photographer/Sports Writer for the Newspaper 9-12
Classic Film Club 10-12 (president)
SADD 9-12 (currently Vice President of Finance and will be running for president next year)
Writing Center Tutor (12)
Diversity Awareness Club (11-12)
Spanish Club 9-12 (will be running for president as a senior)
Red Cross Certified in CPR, First Aid, and Lifeguarding
I have been lifeguarding at my local pool for 2 years.

I also am very passionate about fishing, kayaking, SCUBA Diving (NAUI certified), and spearfishing.

Scores:
ACT: 30 (I am planning on retaking this throughout the year).
SAT II's
US-History- 630
AP US History- 4

I would think you have a very good chance. How do you play varsity and club lacrosse at the same time? If you're good enough to run or play lax at Colgate would say you're definitely in.

as an athlete, your definitely in- one thing about colgate no matter what anyone says, is that recrruited athletes are given huuge huuge preference in admission. ive met a kid who got a 960 on his sat, but is gonna be a starting football player, and ive met athletes who scored below an 1100

even if your not planning on playing, i still think ull get in- my scores were around the same, decent GPA, minority will help

Thanks for the responses. To answer your question, I was playing in a club league until I was able to start lacrosse as a Varsity sport at my school (I live in Florida).

stonecold23 - are you an athlete at Colgate? Does it take up a lot of your time? Are you able to manage with your studies? If you are not an athlete, would you say that the athletes you know are able to balance their time or do sports take up so much time that they don't get to do the normal stuff of college?

I am asking all of these questions b/c my daughter likes what she reads about Colgate (hasn't visited yet - will do this in the next month) and we think she might make it in as an athlete. She is a solid B student at a large suburban CT high school with somewhat decent scores (2020 best) and is a 3 season athlete (soccer, indoor track and outdoor track). She has played varsity for the past three years. She has enjoyed other outdoor activities as well such as snowboarding, water skiiing, and she lifeguards. Her academic strength is math. she did fill out a recruiting form last week for track and Field.

My D would also like to know if there is a lot to do on campus, despite it's rural location. She would prefer a suburban locale that is outside a fun city but she will consider otherwise.

What do you think are her chances?

Peacemaker, my daughter, who is a sophmore this year roomed her first year with three varsity atheletes (she did wind up playing a club sport). Her room mates all did well last year. The team members spend a lot of time together and are very supportive of eachother. I gather there is study time together and academic support too. They all had a fine time socially as well. I can't discern enough from your post to comment on your daughter's chances of admission, but if she does get in, she will be very happy at Colgate.

I honestly don't know what there is to do on campus, I mean there are movies and concerts (though I'm told less than in the past) and of course parties. Team members party and socialize quite a bit together. But I do know that my own daughter, who in HS had easy access to NYC, couldn't wait to get back.
