Colgate vs. Wesleyan

I have a good friend looking at both Wesleyan and Colgate, and he was wondering what the differences in social life, academics, etc. are like. I'm a freshman at Wes, but I can't really help him on the Colgate side of things... anyone care to comment? Much appreciated!

The student body here has a reputation for being much more conservative than the Wesleyan student body. Also, this may seem obvious, but Colgate really is in the middle of nowhere. Princeton Review ain't kidding around when they say it's "rural"...Wesleyan probably has slightly better name recognition but Colgate's probably a little more academically intense (grade deflation etc..) Overall both great schools...best of luck to your pal! Additionally, I have no idea what Wesleyan looks like, but it's gorgeous here!! And the food's delicious!!

There's tons of stuff to do on weekends...certainly, if one wants imbibe there's tons of free booze (provided by the frats). However, most of my friends don't drink at all. There's almost always a play/concert/special event going on. And, if you're not interested in random band/absurdist play/acapella (that's what was going on last weekend), Colgate Activites Board Sponsors 2 free movies on Friday & SaturdaY night and a $3 film dowtown Friday at Midnight (A slice of Pizza's included in that!!)
Also, the Coop (made to order food) is open till 2:30am everyday so you can always chill there.
Drinking's most certainly not the only thing that goes on on the weekends...All that being said, it is the activity of choice for a sizeable chunk of the campus. (But I think that's true at any college)

Oooh-- I forgot to mention, it's pretty easy to get a research assistant job here. I have almost ZERO science background (B in Bio Honors/A in Physics Honors) and I'm no working as an RA on a Ecological Biology project!
