I don't know which is the 'stronger' of the two...when I was applying to colleges, everyone knew "Colgate", not everybody (or even a lot) knew "Hamilton"...
I am not sure tht I would consider Hamilton that much more liberal than Colgate...although it definitely has a different feel to it than Colgate. I will say that Colgate is far more recgonizable than Hamilton in the world of academia and can offer more because of its size [1000 students more]. As a student at Colgate, I have found our size [2750] to be pretty much perfect.
Academically I've heard from students that they're similar and they are both definitely athletic/jocky, preppy, and conservative. Colgate seems to be a bit more recognizable as well as harder to get into (because of the increase of applicants because of being more well-known).
