Concern: I am aware that Colgate is not need blind when it comes to internationals. However, in my research I found out that it is one of the more generous LACs toward internationals. Do you think I can get in if I am asking for aid? (family makes $90000 a year. But the number is deceiving because parents' jobs aren't secure due to visa complications)

I think you have the scores, school performance, other interests that you are a cinch to be accepted at all but the top 15 schools; so certainly should get into Colgate. I would also have to imagine that you would be one of the best international candidates to Colgate, so to the extent that they give out aid to international students that you should be one of the front-runners. I don't think that you wouldn't get in if they viewed you as needing financial aid, but I'm not that specifically knowledgable in logistics of international applicants. Also, if they judge you to not need aid (or not a lot of aid), I would think that this would not inhibit your chances of acceptance either.

From my experience, Colgate is not one of those schools and doesn't look to artificially goose its yield numbers the way Tufts and WUSTL are reputed to. Colgate knows that they are a second choice school to many good Dartmouth and Williams aspirants and makes up a solid class based on this in the same manner that the president of Amherst once claimed that his school made a great living feeding off of Harvard, Yale, Princeton rejects. Also, Colgate can't tell for certain which students will get into and choose Dartmouth, Williams, Cornell, Middlebury and are just trying to create the best potential class they can.

Definitely try- especially it looks like you could be one of the top international applicants there! They might NOT give you much aid as you hope for but if your package isn't what you want, you and your parents can negotiate with the office to come up with a better compromise. good luck!

You should apply to a better school... I think you'd have good chances to get aid from some Ivies.

i'll be content with colgate (with aid). but i'm worried primarily because of my international status.
