cheapest cost of traveling to long island

Is there a train station nearby? How much would it cost on average, to travel to long island? Specifically Suffolk County?

2 way bus ticket from colgate to nyc(42nd st) is 68.40 if you leave on a friday and 88.40 otherwise. hopefully your parents can meet you in the city and take you home from there. if not, im not sure what the fares are on the LIRR from the city to suffolk county; i assume it wouldnt be more than $15 one way.
