Anyone know how to deal with grant money from Colgate?

Good news: I just got my acceptance letter today, along with a letter confirming me as an Alumni Memorial Scholar!

Bad news: I can't afford to go there, even with the 5k scholarship (I think that's what it is?)

They said that my EFC was not low enough to get need based financial aid, although my mother recently decided to claim my sister which cuts our EFC in half. I sent them a letter yesterday but they have yet to respond.

In any case, does anyone know of any way to get merit money (even though they say they don't give it) or greater need based aid from Colgate? Without it, I can't even consider going. Please let me know of anything!

You should call the financial aid office today and talk about the new data.

(The $5K AMS scholarship is a one time award, to be used for research or travel.)

Yeah, the 5k can't be used towards tuition. They don't get merit money so don't waste your time asking. The thing about your mom now claiming your sister sounds real sketchy to me, almost fraud like.

Anyway, I appealed my financial aid package and got a huge increase in my grant. If you have legit circumstances, there are very welling to work with you.

Lucky you. They did not increase my grant but offered me a loan instead. Probably I will accept it and attend Colgate. Hello everyone !
