club sports

how competative are club sports? club soccer in particular. I know that varsity is very competative, but if you are not quite up to the varsity level will you find enough competition playing just club?

It depends on the club sport. Some, like rugby, are more competitive than others. The sports where is a overlap with a varsity team seems to be less competitive. I personally don't play club soccer but have thought about it. Most of the people played in high school, but it didn't seem super competitive and isn't that structured. I don't know anything about the teams that they play. That being said, it is a level above IM and any soccer is better than no soccer.

As far as playing varsity sophomore year, I haven't heard of anyone joining the team like that and I know a lot of the guys. Did you get any DI interest? Are you in contact with the coaches? If I were you, I would try to walk on the team freshman year. Both of the teams have gotten better in the past few years and unless you're a DI caliber player when you set foot on campus, I think its a long shot that you're make the team.
