HELP. Wake Forest vs. Colgate

My good friend has just been accepted at Colgate (legacy) and Wake Forest after being deferred from Duke and must now choose between the two schools. While she realizes that the enviornments at the two schools are different she likes them both and has visited extensively. She is looking into majoring in foreign languages/ international relations, any insights into which school is more prestigious?

well to reply to your question, one of my best friends is going to wake, whereas i am, going to colgate. obviously the schools are in two very different locations, and the schools themselves reflect that. however, there are many many similarities. both are very preppy, but from my experiance wake is much more openly so, meaning that they flaunt ther wealth more than at colgate(this is according to her not me). also wake is more stuck up, her words not mine. colgate is smaller, meaning among other things that colgate's sport teams are not as nationaly recognized, both are d 1 as i you prob know but wake has had more recent success in areas like football ect. your friend should also consider what she would like to study. colgate is a very good liberal arts school wher as wake is a national university, so this makes a difference depending on what you are plannig on studying. and of course there is the weather factor. my frind HATES the snow/cold, and refused to even apply to a school north of virginia, where as i love it. also wake is very "southern" MUCH more so than a place like duke. even though they are near one another duke draws heavaly from northern states, where as wake def hs way more kids from north/south carolina. i dont know eher your friend lives but if he dosent live in this south this is a major factor to take into consideration.

ok well i hope some of this is helpful, and being a prospective colgate student i would of course recomend colgate =)

My understanding was that they were mailing out their letters on March 27th so people should begin to hear from they today.

I think that Colgate is generally more respected by people who know of both. From objective info, SAT median at Colgate is ~ 30-40 points higher, acceptance rate is lower (28% vs 43%) and % in top 10% of hs class is somewhat higher. I think it matters a lot what part of the country you're from and where you plan on going after graduation.
