Are there any neuroscience undergraduates out there that are willing to share their experience at Colgate?

The school website offers limited information about this field.

Are there neuroscience/neurobiologist professors, or are there only pschologists and biologists?
Are there chances for research/internships?
How serious and extensive is this field?
Am I better off going to Stony Brook Honors College?

Neuroscience is a combination of biology, psychology, chem, physics (I think), and you'll take one or two neuroscience classes. It's a very interdisplinary field. There are summer research opportunities with funding from NSF. It's growing in popularity. Plus you'll have that new science building opening up in the fall!

their neuroscience program kicks butt!
and they have a program with that NIH so students can do research there as well as on campus. Not a lot of schools actually offer a neuroscience program but Colgate is one of the first 2 programs in the country to have the program

I sat in on class--Neuropharmacology and it was quite amazing (It was an upper level class so I couldn't actually follow what was going on) The professor explained to me though that the students were working on understanding how Alzhimer's works and that the goal of the class wasn't to give them information simply to have them regurgitate it. Instead, he gives them clues and they have to come up with a proposal as to how Alzhimer can be solved. I thought that was pretty neat!

I spoke with a pre-med/neuroscience student (I'm assuming all who were in the class were actually neuroscience majors though)--she said she loved the program. She also said professors allow a lot of research opportunities. You should email a professor if you're really interested. If anything, they would know the most.

i recently graduated from colgate ('06) with a neuroscience major. i was perusing this board to see what potential freshmen were saying about the school and stumbled upon this thread.. in my experience, colgate was an amazing place to study neuroscience. the professors are top-notch, and are doing really exciting research. you have the opportunity to be a research assistant and get published as an undergrad, which is very rare. you also do your own research project as a senior, and have all of the labs and equipment available to you. that is also very uncommon at the undergrad level. my aunt and uncle are professors at a large university and told me this would never be possible at their school. if anyone has more questions about the program/colgate in general, please feel free to email me at kfrohlinger@gmail.com. i was involved in greek life, and many other aspects of campus. i'd love to help you out!
