Minorities and Colgate!

Is it easier for minorities to get in (other than african american/hispanic). I keep on hearing that colgate is tyring to increase its minority population. Im a minority, but im Iranian. Does that even matter???

it may help a little, as there looking to increase diversity, and unlike large universities, asians are not overrepresented in the applicant pool.

i have heard that this is true, it's true to some extent everywhere but then blown up to a greater proportion the greater the need the school has for diversity. seeing as colgate is 75% white, id say they would be looking at race more so than other schools, but i could be totally wrong.

I believe that the incoming class is more widely diverse than previous years. I think that Colgate is actively trying to eliminate the image of a white preppy upper class university which it has been associated with. Being Iranian or of a different ethnic group which is underrepresented in Colgate may be to your benefit, but it is not heavily considered in comparison to what they normally look for in a student.

Just my two cents.

^ thank you.

SO in brief....Colgate does not give URMs much of an advantage in the admission process?

I'm just saying that if two candidates were roughly the same in all aspects, the fact that he or she is an URM may tip the scales in their favor. Note that I don't have vast insight into the inner workings of the Colgate admissions process so all my views is just speculation.
