Dorms...

With the housing application deadline drawing nearer and nearer (although it is still far away), I was wondering if any current or well-informed prospective students could give me some input regarding the quality of the housing at Colgate. For example which dorm is considered the best, the worst, the most quiet, most loud, and things of that nature. Also is it possible to request a specific dorm

Thanks

Alright, so here is my attempt at giving you some info on dorm life, I hope it helps, if you need more information, message me!

Andrews Hall [where I lived] - Definitely the most social of the six freshman dorms; made up of 4-5 person suites that have spacious common rooms complete with old fireplaces [no longer in use] and large bay windows. It's fun to live with a lot of people, but you need to be ready to head down to the library when you want to study.

Stillman Hall - Almost as social as Andrews Hall; made up of 4 person suites, also with common rooms and nonfunctional fireplaces. However, the common rooms tend to be smaller than they are in Andrews and the building is a bit older.

Gate House - Home to Gate 101, a leadership program as well as the largest doubles on campus. Nice because it has a/c and is next to the coop, although it is farther away [not by much] from the academic quad.

West Hall - The oldest building on campus, but completely redone inside with doubles and singles. West is right on the quad making it the closest to all of your classes and a great place to live - single sex by floor.

East Hall - The same thing as West, except substance free, meaning that it is always quiet. Usually a tight knit group of kids, though.

Curtis Hall - Home to the smallest doubles but the biggest amount of dorm pride on campus. The building is the newest of the dorms and complete with large study spaces, etc but does not necessarily have the biggest rooms. All the same, the kids in Curtis always seems to be the closest and have a great deal of pride for where they are living/who they are living with.

My recomendation - if you can handle the social aspect, Andrews. If not, West or Curtis.

We were told during admitted student days that Gate House is being demolished to create parking for the new science bldg under construction.
