i'm gonna be a junior in hs next year and i was wondering if i could ask:

1. how good is your pre-dental program,

2. what are my chances of getting in right now, and

3. what should i do to improve my chances at getting in (besides at improving my grades)

-i've been volunteering at a local hospital in the kitchen for the past two years, with about 150+ service hours

my school is one of the best in the state. as a reference point, last year, everybody that applied to Villanova w/ at least a 92 average got in.

misc. stuff, i don't know if this really counts towards anyting:
-nominated for the national society of high school scholars
-invited to many leadership programs, including LeadAmerica, National Student Leadership Conference, and Congressional Student Leadership Conference

next year, i'm going to continue all of my ec's, and also going to join another service program and hopefully join crew team. Also, if my parents let me, i'm going to get a part time job during the school year. plus, i will leave the job at the hospital to join the local ems for a more hands-on experience.

Hey -

1. We don't have a pre-dental program; we don't have a "pre-" anything program, for that matter. While we do send a large number of students on to dental / medical school every year, there is no specific track. Some leave Colgate as bio, chem, physics, polisci, art history, etc majors and just have taken the required courses [organic chem, etc]. Colgate prepares its students very well for graduate school

2. I think you have a fare shot of getting in, however it is impossible to say without knowing how you will fare junior and senior years as these are the two most important years on your transcript. However, grades that improve over time are important, so keep up the great work!

3. The best thing you can do to get into Colgate, or any selective college for that matter, is to show how passionate you are through your work with one or two ec's in high school. It's great to do a lot of tihngs in HS, but it's even more important to do a couple of things with a great deal of passion and committment.

1. I'm a pre-med student, and I believe your referring to the pre-health advising, which is very good. There is a health-internship program that runs with local physicians, and I believe, dentists. To apply to dental school, as Gate09 said, you major in whatever you want, but have to take a year of (inorganic chem, organic chem, physics, biology, math, and english)

2. what is your class rank or estimation if your school does not rank? GPAs can be misleading, but from a general glance it looks good. Also, do well on standardized tests. I believe the average accepted score for 2011 was 1390

my school doesn't rank, but if i were to take a guess, i'd say around 30-35ish/240ish (15%). but like i said earlier, my school is one of the best in the state
