Chances For 'Gate, Pretty Please?

Please, I would really love to know if you guys think I can get into Colgate. I have been thinking about going there for the past two years. I'm very excited to finally apply!

Caucasian Female
Seattle area, WA
GPA: 3.855 UW
Class rank: Top 10%
SAT: 2110 (730 CR, 650 M, 730 W)
ACT: Taking Oct. 27th!
SAT II: 750 Literature, 780 U.S. History
APs: 5 English Language (whatever it's called), 5 US History, taking five more AP classes this year

Super-intense courseload all four years, especially this year.
Senior Schedule:
AP Spanish 4
Piano (my fun time)
AP Calculus AB
AP Government/Politics
AP English Literature
AP Physics

Extracurriculars:
-Drama club: vice president 11 and 12, starring roles in many productions, wrote and directed an award-winning one-act play last year
-Energy Conservation Club: physics students that designed and built a device for conserving heat from machines that use hot water in your house (got featured in the Seattle Times and some other local papers)
-Key Club: member all four years, tons of community service, especially at a park that was almost torn down for apartments, but we raised enough money and awareness to prevent that
-Badminton: I, uh, play badminton in my yard pretty much constantly.
-Senior Slideshow: My friend and I compile hundreds of photos sent in by our senior class and create a slideshow (with music and effects and stuff) shown at graduation

Teacher recc's: Should be pretty sweet

Essays: Will be, if I say so myself, pretty incredible

Other stuff:
-National Merit Commended
-Rode horses for 9+ years
-Writer (nothing published, but a heck of a lot of stuff to send in)

I would absolutely love to hear some opinions on my shot at Colgate. Not ED, by the way. Just regular time.

I think you have a good chance. Your GPA is a bit better than mine and your SAT scores look pretty good. With a good essay, I think you'd get in, especially since you come from a pretty underrepresented area. I think there are like 4 girls from the Seattle area this year.

I am mostly interested because of the programs. Colgate has good programs in neuroscience and creative writing. I especially love the creative writing minor because I really don't want to have to be an English minor to do creative writing. Also, Colgate looks beautiful, and I think an outdoorsy, kind of sporty school (that of course has GREAT academics) would be really good for me.

If you guys have any interesting stuff to share about Colgate, I would love to hear it. I especially love to know about the campus "vibe" since my distance and crazy schedule make it impossible for me to visit.

Looks good...take a look at Hamilton if you are in the area visiting Colgate..it's half an hour away and also has great writing programs. I liked it better when I visited both so it might be worth just to compare schools. Also very outdoorsy.

Wow, what a coincidence! I'm a senior here at Colgate and I'm from Bellevue, and have ridden since I was 7. There's getting to be a lot more people from WA/PNW here, which is nice, and Gary Ross (the Dean of Admissions) has special PNW dinners every semester. I really don't know enough to chance you, but let me know if you have any questions about Colgate or anything, or if you ever get a chance to visit!

In terms of the campus "vibe," everyone is really involved, whether it's in academics or clubs or performing arts or community service, etc. There's always a lot going on, both official Colgate events and those put on by different clubs and organizations. The setting makes for a real community feel to campus life - I really enjoy it. Looking at your interests, there's a lot here you'd enjoy. There's a lot of theater going on, and it's really easy to get involved even if you're not studying it. The senior class gift for 2008 is money for an environmental initiative that will work to eliminate Colgate's carbon footprint (there's also several student groups with an environmental focus), there's COVE for community service, and both English and Western equestrian teams - all sorts of stuff going on. Let me know if there's anything specific you'd like to know more about.

Huh, wow. Talk about crazy coincidences! Well, that certainly makes me feel more at home! It's nice to hear that there are some PNW people at Colgate, because I was thinking that if I did get in and attend, I might feel VERY alone. And the stuff about environmentalism and theatre and riding...dang, it's like I won't even leave home! Except for the 3000 miles apart thing, but hey, the atmosphere sounds the same!

You have made me want to go even MORE than I did before! I'm all excited now!
